Terms of Use

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your use of the macOS app “Daily News: Highlight Bar” (the “App”). By downloading or using the App you agree to these Terms.

1. The Service

The App aggregates publicly available news event data from the GDELT Project and other public sources to highlight notable daily news events. Article headlines, source names, and links belong to their respective publishers. Opening an article takes you to the publisher’s website, which is governed by that publisher’s own terms.

2. License

You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to download and use the App for personal, non-commercial use on Apple devices that you own or control, solely in accordance with these Terms and the App Store’s terms.

3. Subscriptions and trials

  • The App provides one 14-calendar-day free use period managed by the App and our backend. The period starts when your first successful activation is recorded. It is not an Apple subscription: no payment authorization is requested at activation, nothing renews automatically, and no charge is made when the period ends. There is nothing to cancel during this period. Eligibility is limited to one trial per installation/device under our abuse-prevention controls.
  • The trial is associated with an anonymous installation identifier stored in the macOS Keychain and with our server record. We do not require you to create a permanent account. If you delete and reinstall the App, remove or reset Keychain data, create a new macOS user, restore or reinstall macOS, or otherwise lose the installation identifier, we cannot guarantee that the remaining trial time will be restored automatically. Apple DeviceCheck may also identify a device as previously used even when local data is unavailable. We do not promise a new 14-day period after such a reset.
  • If a technical failure on our side causes an active trial to become inaccessible, contact support with the in-App Support ID. We may investigate and, where appropriate, grant a limited manual extension. This support process is discretionary and does not create a right to bypass trial limits.
  • When the free period ends, news content and service features stop working until you subscribe. Nothing is billed automatically at that point.
  • Paid access requires an auto-renewing subscription (“Premium”) that you purchase explicitly from the App’s paywall, billed through Apple’s App Store. The charge begins immediately at purchase time, not at the end of the free period. Prices and renewal terms are shown at purchase time.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel your subscription in your App Store account settings.
  • We may change features, availability, or pricing, subject to App Store rules. Changes to an existing subscription’s price require your consent via Apple.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to: (a) copy, modify, or redistribute the App except as permitted by Apple; (b) attempt to circumvent purchase validation, entitlement checks, or trial limits; (c) use automated tools to scrape or overload the service; or (d) use the App for any unlawful purpose.

5. Intellectual property

The App’s software, design, and original content are protected by intellectual property laws. News content remains the property of its respective owners and is presented as headlines and links under fair use for informational purposes.

6. Disclaimer of warranties

The App AND THE SERVICE ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, RELIABILITY, OR AVAILABILITY OF NEWS CONTENT. News data is machine-processed and may contain errors or omissions.

7. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or profits opportunities arising from your use of the App. Our total aggregate liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim.

8. Termination

We may suspend or terminate access to the service for violations of these Terms. Sections 5–7 survive termination.

9. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The current version is always available at this page with the effective date shown above.
